24,500 BBY: The First Great Schism occurred, and is the origin of the first split between Light and Dark Jedi. Dissident Jedi believed emotion was the way to true power, not meditation. General Xendor and his lover Arden Lyn led battles against the jedi, but were defeated.
7,000 BBY – 6900 BBY: The Second Great Schism occurred, after a small sect of Jedi Knights began using the Force to bend life itself. They created new species and predators, and postulated that they could end death and revive dead worlds. Jedi including Ajunta Pall, XoXann, and Karness Muur attempted to convince others to join them in their quest for eternal life. Conflict over the issue broke out and lasted 100 years. Ultimately the Dark Jedi were defeated on Corbos. They were rounded up, stripped of weapons and armor, and exiled into deep space. They came to Korriban, where they discovered the Sith species, and became the Dark Lords of the Sith. Over time they interbred, and the meaning of the term ‘Sith’ came to be that of a dark force user. For two thousand years, the Sith Empire developed in isolation before being rediscovered by the Republic.
5,000 BBY: Some of the Sith, led by the Dark Lord Naga Sadow, attempted to invade the Republic but were defeated. They retreated back to Korriban, were the Sith fought eachother. The Republic arrived as the Sith fought eachother and destroyed them. The remaining Sith were exiled to various planets. Naga Sadow fled to Yavin, and placed his body into stasis, surrounded by his Massassi sith descendants. One Sith survivor fled to the Unknown Regions after 20 years of random hyperspace jumps, and eventually ended up on the forgotten planet of Dromund Kaas where he established himself the Sith Emperor. The Sith Emperor used dark rituals to extend his life.
4,000 BBY: Jedi Knight Revan and his closest friend Malak led Republic forces to victory in the Mandalorian Wars. During this time he embraced seductive Sith teachings at hte Trayus Academy on Malachor V. In his triumph, Revan and his loyal Jedi followers ventured into the Unknown Regions in pursuit of Mandalorian stragglers, and ceased all communications with the known galaxy. He arrived on Dromund Kaas where he encountered the Sith Emperor. The Sith Emperor instructed Revan and Malak to acquire the Star Forge, a superweapon of the Infinite Empire (the first major galactic government, a conquering/enslaving empire, predecessor to the Galactic Republic). This was acquired, and he returned to the Republic, commanding the same obedience of many Mandalorian War veterans, and plunged the galaxy into the Jedi Civil War. Using the Star Forge, Revan went on conquest through the Outer Rim. However, Malak betrayed Revan during a battle with the Republic, and seized control of the Empire. Jedi Bastila Shan, using the force, erased Ravan’s past memories and rebuilt him with a new identity loyal to the Republic. Eventually Revan traced Malak down and vanquished him. A year later, having driven the Sith from Korriban, with more of his memories returning, left the known galaxy behind on a solitary quest against the ‘true’ Sith Empire. As of 3,641 BBY, he was thought to have never returned.
3681 BBY: The Sith Emperor and the True Sith invades the Republic. They seized Korriban, and turned the Mandalorians against the Republic. After years of stalemate, The Dark Council gave the Republic a peace offering. Diplomats from both sides came to Alderaan to discuss peace, but it was a trick. The Sith invaded Coruscant, led by Darth Malgus, destroying the Jedi Temple and held the planet hostage. With no other choice, the Republic signed the uneven Treaty of Coruscant, forcing the Republic to give up many outlying systems to the True Sith Empire. At this time, the Sith Emperor handed over control to the Dark Council, and went on to pursue his own mysterious goals. By the end of the war, thousands of Jedi were dead, and the Galactic Republic blamed the Jedi. The Jedi relocated to their ancient homeworld of Tython.
